The Metal Types of Pellet Mill Die

There are several types of metal that can be adopted to manufacture the die of the pellet mill parts. Each metal has different characteristics, but most of all, the essential features of die are abrasion resistance and corrosion resistance, which is hard enough to handle the pressure during the production process and achieve high production efficiency.

Carbon Steel Alloy
The greatest strength of carbon steel are good abrasion and breakage resistance. The drawback is not resistant to corrosion. It will get rusted easily and worse still, will block the hole of the die and affect the productivity. Adding some lubricative agent before or after the production can help ease the corrosion. Moreover, carbon steel has good hardness, longest service life and low cost, so it is still applicable to many materials.

Stainless Steel Alloy
Compared with carbon steel alloy, stainless steel is more resistant to corrosion, whereby it can manufacture highly polished die holes to ensure the high productivity. The obvious disadvantage of stainless steel die is its high cost.

High Chrome Alloy
High chrome alloy has the highest resistance to corrosion. Its polishing degree is even high than stainless steel. Although the resistance is not enough for form the pellet, lengthening the hole of the die can remedy this shortcoming. It is without denying that high chrome alloy is superior than other metals, however it is also relatively highly expensive.

Generally speaking, good quality dies for biomass pellet press cost higher for better metal. But it doesn’t equal to that the higher the price is, the better the quality is.
